Sometimes no matter how little sleep you've had (or not had), you still have to get up and do things.
When I'm super exhausted the last thing I think about is applying makeup but if I need to leave the house to do something that involves associating with the public.. I like to avoid the ‘are you ok?’ question just because I'm not wearing makeup and my dark under eyes are out in full force that day. As I've talked about before here, people often think the way you look corresponds with the way you feel and as much as that can be a negative thing, sometimes it's good to avoid the questions because of your tired face!
So when I want to look as awake and fresh as possible there are a few things I make sure I do with my makeup.
I start with a highlighting primer to brighten my skin, so it doesn't look so dull and tired.
Then I use an orange concealer under my eyes to cover up those dark circles (though I had to use orange lipstick this day.. it works), I of course wouldn't leave it orange, that makes me look pretty strange… I then use my ordinary under eye concealer over the top and bamn, dark eyes aren't so dark!
I love to use Mac’ Face and Body Foundation when I want to look fresh as it is a very light and a super liquid-y foundation, I don't want to say that it makes my face look wet but it does make me look refreshed and awake, you could say it makes me look like I've just finished a nice jog…
For the rest of my face I use a little bronzer to give me some colour and then I use a cream blush, preferably pink, to give more evidence of that jog… I try to use natural colours when I’m trying to perk my skin up as I that find they compliment the look best.
The eyes... I use a bright shimmery eyeshadow when I'm tired as thats what makes them appear half open! And I of course, (from what we've learnt from all the online beauty people) also put the eyeshadow in the corner of my eye, to stop it from looking so bruised in there! And as much as I love me some black eyeliner, if my eyes are already looking unlit, I tend to stay away from any dark colours as I don't think that any kind of smoky eye is going to be very helpful for the look we're going for!
I apply mascara, I don't really get along with my eyelashes, so they don't always look on point but even the smallest amount of mascara can open up those eyes!
And my eyebrows, I don't feel quite complete without a bit of colour on my eyebrows, especially now that my hair is darker, it only feels right to match the colour up! As everyone says 'eyebrows frame the face', so I fill them in a bit and hope that I through the magic of makeup I can form an arch to lift my eyes some more! And for the lucky people out there with the perfect brows... well I guess you're already one step ahead of us!
I'm not always a fan of gloss, probably because of my curly, frizzy hair that gets stuck to it, so I usually opt for a matte lip colour but in this case I think that an hydrating gloss that enhances the natural lip colour is the best way to go!
Whether I'm having a 'no sleep' or a '12 hours of sleep' kind of day, whenever I wear makeup I never go without my face highlighter, which I admittedly apply more than necessary but by putting it on high points of the face (or if you're like me; wherever your heart desires) it will help you look healthy and revitalised! Like you've just been on that jog...

You're such a beautiful lady Katie! I don't normally bother with too much makeup if I'm leaving the house, it depends on what I'm doing but I'll normally have to apply some foundation and blusher to make me look like I'm actually a human and not a walking dead. I love playing with makeup but it's so exhausting, why can't there be a makeup robot that can do it all for us? Maybe I should invent one and go onto Dragon's Den?

Thank you Hayley!
DeleteYeah exactly, we don't always want to scare everyone, haha. I often put makeup on to make myself feel better but most of the time, I could probably fool people into thinking that I'm dressed up and ready to knock on doors and ask for sweets..
That is a great idea, I'm sure that you'll have all us spoonies backing you on that one ;)
